Sozni is the extremely intricate and fine, jewel-like embroidery done by traditional artisans in Kashmir to decorate the borders and surface of shawls. Comprising one of the most sophisticated forms of needle embroidery in the world, the art of sozni is thought to have been introduced to Kashmir from Iran in the 14th Century by the Sufi Saint and poet, Mir Syed Ali Hamdani. Our embroidered shawls take an artisan between 2-12 months to complete, depending on the complexity and fullness of the design.
