HERITAGE AND JOBS
Me & K is committed to promoting Kashmir's reputation for handmade craftsmanship, ensuring that these skills are passed on to future generations.
To achieve this goal, it is essential to improve wages and working conditions in this sector, in order to make this industry more attractive to younger generations.
Me & K collaborates with 1,000 independent home-based spinners (from our women's employment program), 50 weavers, 40 embroiderers, 20 Kani weavers, and 6 hand painters, all partner artisans working exclusively for the brand. These artisans operate from their homes, and Me & K assigns them work throughout the year to provide them with a regular income.

WOMEN'S PROGRAM
In 2021, the brand established a training center in Srinagar, where 300 women are trained each year, to improve the skills of artisans, particularly in the art of traditional hand spinning.
The introduction of a new, specially designed spinning wheel (charkha), which was more comfortable and easy to use, not only increased the individual productivity of women but also doubled their incomes.
This initiative also helped raise awareness about the superiority of cashmere
hand-spun in terms of quality, protection and recognition.
At the end of the two-week training program, they receive one of the new spinning wheels to join the Me & K adventure.

CERTIFICATION
The Me & K brand is registered with the Government of India (GI) for the “Kashmir Pashmina” label. This label certifies the origin and quality of the Pashmina handcrafted in Kashmir. The brand is a strong supporter of this certification, aimed at protecting the purity of genuine hand-spun and hand-woven Pashmina. All products are certified in terms of micron, hand-spun, and weaving quality by the Craft Development Institute (CDI) in Srinagar, Kashmir.
Additionally, the brand has the quality of all its cashmere certified and verified from the fiber stage by the CDI, using the Fiber Diameter Analyzer (OFDA), an optical technology that precisely measures the diameter of cashmere fibers, thus ensuring that the quality used is always less than 14.5 microns. Quality testing and certification are also carried out by the Pashmina Testing & Quality Certification Centre (PTQCC).
